Support for the Silverlight console for Intune ends August 31st, 2018 – move to Intune in Azure to continue managing

Starting August 31, 2018, Mobile Device Management (MDM) will no longer be available in the classic Silverlight console for Intune standalone customers.

You can read more about this change in Microsoft’s previous announcements:

General Availability of the New Admin Experience for Intune

How does this affect me?

Please disregard this message if you’ve already made the transition to Intune on Azure for your MDM needs. From scalability improvements to optimizations across EM+S workflows, Intune on Azure provides a more integrated, streamlined admin experience for your modern management needs.

If you are a hybrid customer (using Intune & Configuration Manager with MDM authority set to SCCM), Android Enterprise and Lookout onboarding will still be available in the classic Silverlight Intune MDM console.

This change won’t affect you if you’re using the Intune PC client, as you’ll continue to have access to Silverlight.

What do I need to do to prepare for this change?

  • Stop using the classic Silverlight Intune console, and use Intune on Azure for MDM.
  • Notify your helpdesk and update any of your internal Intune admin guides.
  • Be aware that Intune classic MDM documentation found on docs.microsoft.com has been retired to avoid confusing guidance.
  • Check that your MDM compliance policies are showing up in Intune on Azure. For more information on how to do that, go here.
  • Microsoft recommends that you use MDM to manage your Windows 10 devices instead of using the legacy Intune PC client. You can learn more about PC management here.
